The participation of the Indonesian delegation at Gamescom 2019 is a continuation of the Archipelageek program initiated by the Indonesian Creative Economy Agency (BEKRAF) and the Indonesian Game Association (AGI).
Archipelageek is a program that aims to help creative industry players, especially in the application and game developer sub-sector, to show off in the global market and get potential business partners.
“Archipelageek is Bekraf’s activity to bring innovators in the digital and games sector to expand their market to the world through participation in major exhibitions in the world. We will provide support to participate at Gamescom, in Cologne, Germany. The big mission is that we want to bring Indonesian talent into the world market,” said Joshua Simandjuntak, Deputy Marketing Officer of the Creative Economy Agency.
Known as game events The biggest in Europe, Gamescom 2019 is certainly the best gateway to target the European market.
Every year, Gamescom is attended by more than 350,000 visitors from all over the world as well as more than 30,000 potential business partners who are expected to help games Indonesia to be better known in the European market.
Last year, Gamescom was attended by more than 370,000 visitors and 1,037 exhibitors from all over the world.
Gamescom 2019 is Archipelageek’s first participation in game events After three consecutive years (2017-2019) participating in SXSW, two consecutive years (2018 and 2019) participating in Game Connection America and two consecutive years (2017 and 2018) participating in the Tokyo Game Show. .
Indonesia’s participation through Archipelageek in the last two years in other events such as Game Connection America has been quite successful.
One example is Lentera Nusantara who met their publisher, Aksys to release Ghost Parade in platform PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. Game Connection America 2018 also succeeded in bringing Agate together with PQube, which finally succeeded in bringing Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story to penetrate the European and United States markets.
Most recently, through Game Connection America 2019, yesterday, Indonesian game companies have received potential transactions of more than USD 200,000. It is hoped that by participating in Gamescom 2019, the delegates can continue these positive results.
“Video games have become the largest entertainment medium globally with a value of 152 billion US dollars in 2019, beating conventional entertainment such as movies and music many times over,” said AGI President, Cipto Adiguno.
“Unfortunately, Indonesia is still relatively young in this industry compared to veteran players such as America, China, and Japan, so most of the products we consume are foreign products and do not contribute to state income. The ARCHIPELAGEEK program is expected to open a business window for game industry players in Indonesia to enter the world market and grow to become the new creative economic power of our nation,” he concluded.
