2017 has been the year of cool games to play. there are even some games that are soaring high with amazing new gameplay that have made a huge impact, there are also some surprising flaws present in some games..
Some of the new 2017 releases disappointed with their business model, while others weren’t what fans had hoped for. Here are the five most disappointing games of 2017.
Mass Effect: Andromeda
After Mass Effect: Andromeda was postponed from holiday 2016 to March 2017 fans hoped that the delay would give BioWare developers enough time to make it perfect. But unfortunately. for fans of sci-fi RPGs it’s nothing.
The game received a lot of criticism, focusing on a number of issues including the game’s writing. Unlike the original Mass Effect trilogy which made fans fall in love with the world and its characters, Andromeda’s writing doesn’t give players enough reason to care about the setting. The new game doesn’t have the same trilogy charm.
Friday the 13th: The Game
Friday the 13th: The Game is an asymmetrical game that pits a group of camp counselors against Jason Voorhees. It may be a spin-off game from the cult horror film franchise but the gruesome killing animation is the least scary part of this adaptation.
At launch, the servers are overloaded due to high demand and this keeps players out of the game. These server issues were largely fixed but the worries around the game didn’t end when it launched.
Yooka-Laylee
Another crowdfunded game that failed to offer supporters what they hoped for was Yooka-Laylee. Designed as a spiritual successor to the promising Banjo-Kazooie classic platforming game, players discover that the game is stuck in the past, but not in a good way.
Yooka-Laylee’s gameplay has been called outdated and has been criticized for its confusing design. For those for the nostalgic feel of platforming, Yooka Laylee might seem like the ideal game. But many people feel that this new game also keeps the bad classic platforming games. As such, it’s been one of the biggest gaming disappointments of 2017.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite brings back the beloved fighting game series with key changes such as 2v2 combat instead of traditional 3v3 battles and Infinity Stones allowing players to customize their gameplay.
Unfortunately, this new feature hasn’t stopped fans from feeling disappointed. Although additional heroes (including Black Widow) have been added since launch, there’s still a feeling that the game is lacking in diversity. In addition, many are angry about how the available characters are portrayed.
Star Wars Battlefront 2
The gameplay reviews were mostly positive but the game’s business model really caused quite a stir. Star Wars Battlefront 2 has been slammed for its use of microtransactions and loot boxes to give players an edge (no matter how small) online.
The backlash against that business model was so severe that EA was forced to dump microtransactions right before launch. But changes made to compensate for the lack of microtransactions – such as a drop in credit profits – have also frustrated fans.
EA has promised to continue tweaking the game’s development system and has also suggested that microtransactions never be brought back into the game, although the initial move is temporary. Regardless of what changes happen in the future, the damage is already done and fans are already disappointed.
