Final Fantasy XV is coming to PC soon, and a pocket chibi version is on its way to be released to mobile devices, and the only major platform that’s acknowledged not to have reached the RPG stage yet is the Nintendo Switch. However, it seems that Square Enix of course wants to bring the game to Nintendo consoles as well.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata said his team is currently testing whether the Switch port is feasible. “We’re actually doing a very specific technical investigation into what might be done at this point,” Tabata said. “I have completed the test and have managed to find where it is. We are currently in the midst of discussions and debates about what we should be doing, and how to make it happen on Switch.”
While the Switch may not be as powerful as the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, that doesn’t necessarily prevent it from receiving a Final Fantasy XV port. “What we value is optimizing the gameplay and experience for each piece of hardware and not a one-size-fits-all approach,” Tabata said. “We can’t announce anything at this time – we haven’t come to a full decision on how best to do it. We are in open and frank discussions with Nintendo at this time about what they consider to be the best thing to do.”
A number of high-profile ports have been announced for the Switch recently. During last week’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, Bethesda announced that it was bringing Doom and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to consoles. Rockstar’s detective game LA Noire will also be making its way to the Switch this November.
Final Fantasy XV Release
Final Fantasy XV will be released for PC in early 2018, while the Pocket chibi Edition will launch as ten separate episodes later this year, the first of which you can download for free. Prior to that, the game’s multiplayer expansion, released for PS4 and Xbox One on October 31. The next DLC, Episode Ignis, is slated to arrive this December.
